Gold Star Marching Band

Band-Ten Hut! - The command that tells the band to come to attention, a military posture.
Band, Left Face! - The command to turn 90 degrees in place while pivoting on your left heel and the balls of your right foot. The response is "and one, two", meaning the left toes and right heel are risen on "and", the turn on "one" and the right foot is moved forward next to the left on "two".
Band, Right Face! - Another 90 degree turn command, except turning in place while pivoting on your right heel and the balls of your left foot. The response and turn are the same for the left, just swapping feet.
Band, About Face! - The command to turn the band 180 degrees to the rear. The response is "and one, two, snap, four". The left knee rises so the thigh is 45 degrees from the ground, while keeping the toes on the ground on "and". The knee returns back to original position on "one". On "two" the right foot extends forward so the only the ball of your foot are touching, the left foot rises to the ball of the feet. "Snap" is the quick snapping of the body 180 degrees while pivoting on both balls of your feet. On "four" the right foot is moved forward next to the left.

Glide Step - The basic field march is performed by glide or "roll stepping" in the direction of travel. This step involves bringing the heel gently to the ground with the toe pointed up, and then rolling forward onto the toes before lifting the foot. Each heel hits the field on the numbered count, always starting with the left foot.
Backwards March - The glide step performed while walking backwards, but ALWAYS staying on the balls of your feet, NEVER the heels.
Mark Time - Usually when the band is not moving, the band will mark time, or march in place. The left heel rises with the ball of the foot firmly planted and when the left returns, the right heel is risen. The command is "Mark Time Mark", and the response is "Up, One, Two, Three, Four......". On "up" the left heel rises, returns on "one", while the right rises simultaneously, "two" is when the right heel returns and the left heel is risen. Mark times are always very snappy and precise. The process repeats for the counts that are given.
Flank - Changing direction 90 degrees in the band by turning and snapping the entire body towards the new direction of travel, and glide stepping in the new direction. The turns are very similar to the footing of a left-face and right-face.
Slide - Changing direction 90 degrees in the band by snapping and turning the lower half of the body, while the top half of the body remains fixed in the original direction, and glide stepping in the new direction. The turns are very similar to the footing of a left-face and right-face.

Hit! - The yell given while field marching to hit the foot on the yard line on that count
Half Chair Step - Another marching style that lifts the knee up to 45 degrees from the ground on each count. The left foot rises on "one", and returns while the right rises on "two".
Cover Down - The command to look to you left, right, forward, and align yourself with the people around you to make the shape, line, or block more crisp. Band members are always supposed to dress to the front. Also called "dress" or to 'dress the line'.
Diagonals - The command to look at the diagonal that you are in and align yourself to make the line more crisp.
Float - The style of marching in a show where the member has particular coordinates and marches to them independently.
Follow the Leader - Another marching show style where the member follows their coordinates and march while dressing the line and following the person to their front, back, or sides.
Scatter Drill - A marching show style where the drum majors blow a whistle and the band members run to their next coordinate location on the field.
